Moped Tyres, range, fitting and advice

For a large range of moped tyres, inner tubes, rim tape and accessories visit to http://www.classicmopedspares.com/

  1. Size
    1. Check the sizes stamped on the existing tyres
    2. Some old tyres were measured differently so the modern equivalent may be something different.  Many of the old sizes were based on the outer dimensions where today they are based on inner dimensions. For example an old 23x2.00 tyre has the modern equivalent of 2-19. 23inch is the outer dimension and 19inch the inner diameter. Both fit a 19 inch rim. I can only assume the old sizing method was to do with the clearance of the mudguards. If you need any help or for me to check please just ask
  2. Age
    1. Tyres 7 years or older should be replaced.
    2. Tyres do perish even if they are new and have been stored.
    3. I only supply tyres that are new. This means they have been manufactured fairly recently
    4. If you do buy elsewhere (especially auctions sites) please check the date codes on the tyres. New old Stock is not new!
  3. Fitting
    1. It is reccomended that tyres are fitted by a trained mechanic
    2. Tyre soap should be used to assist
    3. It is advisable to replace rim tape and inner tubes also. Rim tape protects against spoke flakes from the rim which can puncture the inner tube. Most now replace inner tubes as puncture repair is often a false economy.
    4. Appropriate sized tyre levers are also required. Larger tyre levers can cause distortion to the tyre.
    5. Have patience!
  4. Problems
    1. It is rare that problems occur fitting moped tyres as most are as simple to fit as bicycle tyres, certainly old tyres are more likely to cause problems
    2. Inner tubes with large repair patches can cause distortion to a tyre. I have seen a tyre which appeared that it would not fit the rim, but the problem was the inner tube had a thick patch on it.
    3. Incorrect sized or inflated inner tubes
  5. More Updates Soon
